Asimov also writes of his robots, which were a big thing in the 50’s from what I can gather. Still, the chauvinism is ripe in many, if not most, of his stories, and I shudder to think what a man he might have been if his attitude to women that shines through these stories chisyoso indeed reflected in his personality.

Really bad one, it tries to be funny. Were I pressed to find fault with Asimov’s short stories, it would be in the fact that in choosing such a manner of writing, he does indeed sacrifice somewhat the eloquence of language used, in order to present as concise a picture as possible for readers while still tugging at their heartstrings.

As such, some of the stories are choppy. It was jarring reading the descriptions of computers or the thoughts of the characters in regards to some social situation.

This is a far cry from the miniaturization and improved communications we see today. Most are, a surprising number are superb.

I haven’t read a book in years but just about to start in an effort to slow down. Don’t you just love those stories in which the last line puts the whole story in a different perpective?

Professor Asimov is generally considered one of the most prolific writers of all time, having written or edited more than books and an estimated 90, letters and postcards. It’s really unfortunate that this anthology set was never completed.
